Welcome to the NERD Lab, in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Our lab studies the neuroendocrine mechanisms that influence mood across the female reproductive lifespan, including pubertal and menopausal transitions. To do so, we utilize a multimodal approach that combines the precise measurement of hormone fluctuations and neurophysiological responses to stress and emotion with frequent assessments of mood and interpersonal stress. We aim to understand how social, emotional, cognitive, and neuroendocrine factors interact to produce affective symptoms in females during pivotal developmental windows.
